An analysis of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>B</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>*</mo><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><msup><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> decay is presented using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>8.4</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>. The full set of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-averaged and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-asymmetric angular observables is determined in bins of the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system, as well as the branching fraction relative to the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>B</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mrow><mi>J</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>ψ</mi></mrow><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">)</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> decay. For the first time, the full set of observables pertaining to the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi>K</mi><mo>+</mo></msup><msup><mi>π</mi><mo>−</mo></msup></math> S-wave contribution to the final state are presented and consideration is given to effects arising from the mass of the muons. The extracted <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-asymmetry observables show no significant deviations from zero. The measurements of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-averaged observables and the branching fractions continue to exhibit the pattern of tensions with the standard model predictions that have been seen in previous analyses that use part of the dataset considered in this Letter.

Comprehensive Analysis of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msup><mrow><mi>B</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>*</mo><mn>0</mn></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>μ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> Decay

The first observation of the doubly charmed baryon <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msubsup><mi mathvariant="normal">Ξ</mi><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mo>+</mo></msubsup></math> is reported through its decay to the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msubsup><mrow><mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup><msup><mrow><mi>K</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo></mrow></msup><msup><mrow><mi>π</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math> final state, with a statistical significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The observation is made using proton-proton collision data collected in 2024 with the LHCb Run 3 detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13.6 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>6.9</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>. The <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msubsup><mi mathvariant="normal">Ξ</mi><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mo>+</mo></msubsup></math> mass is measured to be <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mn>3619.97</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.83</mn><mo>±</mo><msubsup><mrow><mn>0.26</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1.30</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mn>1.90</mn></mrow></msubsup><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mrow><mi>MeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></mrow></math>, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the unknown <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msubsup><mi mathvariant="normal">Ξ</mi><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mo>+</mo></msubsup></math> lifetime, which is assumed to lie in the range 15–160 fs with a baseline value of 45 fs. The difference between the masses of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msubsup><mi mathvariant="normal">Ξ</mi><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mo>+</mo></msubsup></math> and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msubsup><mi mathvariant="normal">Ξ</mi><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup></math> baryons is determined to be <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1.77</mn><mo>±</mo><mn>0.84</mn><mo>±</mo><msubsup><mrow><mn>0.15</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1.30</mn></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo><mn>1.90</mn></mrow></msubsup><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>MeV</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mrow><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mn>2</mn></mrow></msup></mrow></math>. This is the first observation of a new particle made with the LHCb Run 3 detector.

Observation of the Doubly Charmed Baryon <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msubsup><mrow><mi mathvariant="normal">Ξ</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>c</mi><mi>c</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>+</mo></mrow></msubsup></mrow></math> with the LHCb Run 3 Detector

We propose a quantum-error-correction-inspired noise mitigation protocol for enhancing the sensitivity of wavelike dark matter searches with quantum sensors. Our protocol uses multiple sensors to mitigate the noise affecting each sensor individually, allowing for the suppression of excitation noise that is parallel to the dark matter signal. We demonstrate that our protocol can improve the sensitivity to dark matter signals by a factor of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msqrt><mrow><mi>N</mi></mrow></msqrt></mrow></math>, where <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>N</mi></math> is the number of sensors used, for small <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>N</mi></math>. Furthermore, for sufficiently large <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>N</mi></math>, we find that our protocol achieves the same performance as the standard quantum limit by the ideal measurement, which nonentangled sensors with parallel noise cannot reach due to the unknown phase of the dark matter field. Our Letter can be widely applied to various types of signals with unknown phases and has the potential to enhance the sensitivity of quantum sensors such as arrays of resonant cavities.

Quantum-Error-Correction-Inspired Noise Mitigation for Wavelike Dark Matter Searches with Quantum Sensors

We reexamine the large <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>N</mi></math> limit of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>SU</mi><mo stretchy="false">(</mo><mi>N</mi><mo stretchy="false">)</mo></mrow></math> symmetric quantum mechanics of a Hermitian matrix whose singlet sector is well known to be exactly solvable via free fermions. When the Fermi level approaches a maximum of the potential, there is critical behavior corresponding to string theory in two dimensions. We uncover new phenomena in the adjoint sector by solving the Marchesini-Onofri equation both numerically and analytically using semiclassical approximations: at criticality, the spectrum is governed by Regge trajectories with energy eigenvalues growing according to <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msup><mi mathvariant="normal">Δ</mi><mn>2</mn></msup><mo>∼</mo><mi>n</mi><mo>/</mo><msup><mi>α</mi><mo>′</mo></msup></math>. In the dual 2D string theory, we interpret these states as oscillatory excitations of a “short” folded open string. Up to subleading corrections, this Regge behavior is essentially universal and is insensitive to the particular potential we choose to approach criticality. Slightly away from criticality, the highly excited states transition into “long strings” that extend far into the Liouville direction.

Regge Trajectories from the Adjoint Sector of Matrix Quantum Mechanics

We present a worldsheet action that reproduces a class of dual resonance amplitudes discussed in the literature, which generalize the Veneziano amplitude for open strings. Our proposal builds on the chiral composite linear dilaton introduced recently. We further compute higher-point extensions and closed-string analogs, which exhibit partial crossing symmetry.

Worldsheet for Generalized Veneziano Amplitudes

We define a black hole state in a spin chain by studying thermal correlators in holography. Focusing on the Heisenberg model we investigate the thermal and complexity properties of the black hole state by evaluating its entanglement entropy, emptiness formation probability, and Krylov complexity. The entanglement entropy grows logarithmically with effective central charge <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>c</mi><mo>≃</mo><mn>5.2</mn></mrow></math>. We also find evidence for thermalization at infinite temperature.

Black Hole States in Quantum Spin Chains

A combination of measurements of the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math> properties of Higgs boson interactions with electroweak gauge bosons is presented, using <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mn>140</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>−</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math> of proton-proton collisions at <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><msqrt><mrow><mi>s</mi></mrow></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></mrow></math> recorded by the ATLAS detector. Results from vector boson fusion <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>H</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>τ</mi><mi>τ</mi><mo>/</mo><mi>W</mi><msup><mrow><mi>W</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>*</mo></mrow></msup><mo>/</mo><mi>γ</mi><mi>γ</mi></mrow></math>, inclusive <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>H</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>Z</mi><msup><mrow><mi>Z</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>*</mo></mrow></msup></mrow></math>, and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mrow><mi>W</mi><mi>H</mi><mo>,</mo><mi>H</mi><mo stretchy="false">→</mo><mi>b</mi><mover accent="true"><mrow><mi>b</mi></mrow><mrow><mo stretchy="false">¯</mo></mrow></mover></mrow></math> channels are combined. No evidence of <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math> violation is observed, and constrains on the <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mi>C</mi><mi>P</mi></math>-violating operators in the Standard Model effective field theory framework (SMEFT) are set in the Warsaw basis. The results from the combination improve by over 40% on previous individual limits on <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>c</mi><mrow><mi>H</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>W</mi><mo stretchy="false">˜</mo></mover></mrow></msub></math> and, for the first time, simultaneous constraints on three coefficients <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>c</mi><mrow><mi>H</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>W</mi><mo stretchy="false">˜</mo></mover></mrow></msub></math>, <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>c</mi><mrow><mi>H</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>B</mi><mo stretchy="false">˜</mo></mover></mrow></msub></math>, and <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><msub><mi>c</mi><mrow><mi>H</mi><mover accent="true"><mi>W</mi><mo stretchy="false">˜</mo></mover><mi>B</mi></mrow></msub></math> are set. These limits are the most stringent constraints to date on the relevant Wilson coefficients in the SMEFT framework with minimum model dependence.
